Power Outages
Flickering Lights
Circuit Breakers
Electrical Repairs
Sparking Outlets & Switches
What should you do if you have a power outage?
Firstly, check if your neighbors have a loss of electricity as well - if yes then it is a geographical based power outage in your area and the electricity supplier/company should have the service up and running as soon as possible.
In the meantime whilst you are waiting for the electricity to come back on unplug all appliances, televisions, computers and the like. This will help avoid damage to appliances and equipment should a power surge occur when the electricity comes back on again.
If your neighbors still have their electricity supply then the problem is isolated to your house.
Next step upon establishing it is not a neighborhood outage is to take a look at your circuit breakers. Check if the circuit breakers have tripped - if yes then reset. If the electricity comes back on then problem solved. If not, call out a fully qualified electrician to assess the outage problem.
Tip: Always have a torch with batteries ready in case a power outage occurs at night time.
Call Flaherty Electrics if you have an emergency power outage issue.
Flickering Lights
Not only are flickering lights a little spooky but they can be potentially dangerous so it should not be ignored. There are a few checks you can carry out before establishing if it is necessary to call an electrician out.
Firstly, if the flickering is isolated to one light fixture try changing the bulb.
Second, check if your neighbors are experiencing the same problem, if yes then it looks like it is a neighborhood wide issue which your electric company will need to deal with.
You will need to contact an electrician if you notice flickering lights across multiple lights, or across the whole house. Sometimes the lights may only flicker when a large powerful appliance like an AC unit is in operation, you should still contact an electrician if this the case as it will need to be remedied.

Circuit Breakers
Circuit breakers are a very important component of your electrical system. Designed to trip if there is a problem with the current flow they are like a safety catch in the system.
A faulty circuit breaker can be a fire hazard because if it does not trip and stop the electrical flow then a fire could result.
Flaherty Electrics can identify faulty circuit breakers and repair or replace them for you as necessary.
Sparking Outlets and Switches
Signs that your outlets or switches are faulty include sparking, overheating and lights flickering. Use of power outlets that are faulty should be discontinued immediately and replaced by an electrician.
Continued use of a faulty outlet could be dangerous for anyone using the appliance connected to that outlet. Faulty outlets or switches are a fire hazard.
If you are concerned about the behavior of an outlet of switch please get in touch with Flaherty Electrics.
We offer these electrical services in the Delaware, Montgomery and Chester Counties to our commercial business customers.
